Electrical connections become hot due to overload or high resistance caused by corrosion or a poor connection. Catching problems during routine inspections or after maintenance can catch a problem early, before it causes expensive downtime. Detect Potential Problem Hot-Spots Before They Become Critical. One way to measure the temperature of an object is by directly contacting the object with a thermometer or similar device.
In some instances, however, this is not practical. In such cases, it is possible to measure the temperature of an object from a distance using an instrument sensitive to infrared radiation.
It is possible to determine the temperature of any and all points in a scene by measuring the infrared radiation emitted by every object in the scene.
Such systems can find widespread commercial use in predictive and preventive maintenance.
For example, a hot spot in an electrical junction box which is detected by an imaging radiometer can warn of an incipient failure.
This is only one of the many applications addressed with infrared cameras.
NRG Products and Services NRG uses the latest technology in Infrared Imaging, the patented Honeywell thermoelectric (TE) array. Infrared Solutions has a world-wide exclusive license to use this Honeywell technology in infrared cameras. The advantages of this "uncooled" thermoelectric detector over other infrared detectors are that it:
